In the Fall 2018 term, Schulich School of Business launched the introductory ‘Academic Honesty’ Canvas course for all incoming first-year students. The course includes 5 interactive modules, each exploring a unique academic honesty scenario, and designed to communicate expectations regarding academic honesty at Schulich. By completing these modules, students will be able to:
- Recognize the most common academic honesty infractions;
- Understand the possible outcomes of academic dishonesty;
- Identify strategies and resources to maintain their academic honesty.
Each module takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete (~1.5h total). Students are not required to complete them all in one sitting, but are expected to complete them individually and prior to their orientation.
The Academic Honesty modules cover Individual Plagiarism, Group Plagiarism, Cheating, Aiding and Abetting, and the Academic Honesty Process at Schulich. Each module follows alongside a relatable character on their academic journey as they encounter, identify, and learn to resolve possible academic breach scenarios. Each module includes interactive stories, identifying the infraction and contributing factors, resulting consequences, strategies to avoid the infraction in the future, followed by an agreement to uphold academic honesty throughout their university career.
For any member of the York community interested in viewing or completing the Academic Honesty course, a demo version is also available through Canvas. Please contact the CITE office, at cite@schulich.yorku.ca for access to the Academic Honesty demo course.
